Remedies Available When Pension Claim Is Rejected

EOBI provides pension to the insured person registered with it. There are instances when a person's claim for pension is rejected. This rejection can be on many grounds, which we shall discuss in another post. Here we are going to tell you the various options which you can avail in order to make an appeal.

EOBI Act 1976 provides the option of review in case a person's claim for pension has been rejected. Under section 33 of EOBI Act 1976, a person can make appeal to the Adjudicating Authority. This application for review of a decision will be considered by the Adjudicating authority free of charge. Under the process, the adjudicating authority will give the opportunity of hearing to the applicant at one of the regions of EOBI near the applicant's location. In case the claim has been rejected, the application should be made along with the rejection letter. Other supporting documents should be annexed alongwith attested photocopies of CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) number.

A person can make an application against the decision of Adjudicating authority as well. This application should be made to the EOBI Board under section 34. These options can be utilized free of charge, and the decision is usually made within two months after a single hearing. Hence every claimant can utilize this facility without facing the difficulties of going to high court and incurring huge expenses.
