How to Secure Your EOBI Registration For Pension

EOBI is supposed to register all the employees of private sector and provide them benefits. But unfortunately due to the number of bottlenecks and illegal tactics used by the employers, a large number of the employees remain unregistered with EOBI. This is a major issue which is being faced by a large number of employees and workers in our country. Unregistered Employers</h3>

If the employer has not registered his organization with EOBI, the employees can inform EOBI about the number of employees and workers in the organization. This can be easily found from the attendance registers. This list can be forwarded to EOBI's regional and zonal offices for action. The employee can hide his identity to avoid any ill treatment from his organization.</div>

Unfortunately, many large industrial units, mills and factories are also involved in these tactics to hide their employees. While the case against the small units is difficult, the large industrial units can be easily fined by EOBI and their workers have to send their information to EOBI regional offices. This will help them in the timely registration with EOBI.</div>

Lapses on Part of EOBI</h3>

Many readers can raise the question that why EOBI doesn't take action itself against such employers. In fact, EOBI is already taking action against such employers but it has not the required human resource to target all the employers. In this regard, it is the employees and workers who have to come forward as it is primarily their right which needs to be safeguarded. It is they who will receive the benefits and a lapse on EOBI would only harm their rights. The sluggish nature of government institutions is already well known which can never be defended. But the above suggestions would be helpful to many workers and employees for protecting their rights.</div>

EOBI's Pension Increases But Contributions Don't

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Zulfiqar Bukhari has announced increase in EOBI pension from Rs. 6500 to Rs. 8500. He had earlier promised to increase pension to Rs. 15,000. The recent increase of Rs 2000 will definitely provide a much needed relief to the poverty stricken retired workers and their widows. Hence, this act is highly appreciated and hopefully the pension would be increased again in the near future.</div>

The potential of EOBI is much more than its current performance. As every private establishment having five or more than five workers is bound to register and pay contribution to EOBI, hence the potential to receive contribution can be increased drastically by bringing more and more private unit in the EOBI net. But unfortunately EOBI's current performance is below par. The recently published Board of Trustees Minutes have revealed that EOBI is already working at half the strength sanctioned half a decade ago. More interestingly, while the private sector is increasing day by day, EOBI's human resource is on the decline since the last five years as no hiring has been done and the employees are retiring since most of the employees were hired in the previous century.</div>

The problem is obvious as the increase in pension is not supported by increase in contributions. While the increase in pension may portray a sweet picture of the government in the eyes of the masses, but the fund is going to deplete with this increase. With no real strategy to increase the contributions and harness the ever increasing private sector, the organization's future is bleak at the moment.</div>

If a person holds EOBI Registration Card, he is entitled to death grant, marriage grant, scholarship grant from Workers Welfare Board, provided he fulfills the criteria laid for 'Worker' and 'Workmen' as provided in IRA 2012. (See the image below)</div>

More importantly, the person who holds EOBI Registration Card is entitled for special quota in Hajj schemes. This year, government had declared a quota of 500 persons for Hajj scheme.</div>

EOBI Registration Card is the due right of every employee in private sector. It also entitles the children of the workers to study in Workers Welfare Board Schools around the country. It should be kept in mind that unlike Workers Welfare Board and Social Security, EOBI is a federal institution. It is also pertinent to mention here that the requirement of EOBI Registration or Social Security is not mandatory for mining workers in case of death grant.</div>
